Emergency & Urgent Care
We understand that emergencies can happen at any time, and that it is a very stressful time for you and your pet. If your pet needs emergency care:
- Please first try calling your regular veterinarian to see if they can accommodate you.
- Call before heading in – Our staff will be able to advise you on whether your pet’s condition is something that we are able to treat given how busy things are at the hospital at that time. They may also provide advice for care you can provide, or set you up with an appointment with one of our specialists if that is more appropriate.
- During the Covid-19 pandemic, all client service is being handled curb-side. Your pet will be assessed and likely taken into the building for initial assessment and stabilization. You will be asked to approve initial care. Depending on what your pet needs, and whether it is likely to either take hours or require hospital admission, you may be able to leave instead of waiting to talk to a doctor.
- The doctor will call you to discuss treatment options and costs. At that time, there may be some documents for you to review and either sign or approve over the phone.
For emergencies after hours, please call 660-747-5162. You will hear a recording giving contact information for our On-Call doctor. We appreciate your respectful use of emergency calls for true emergencies only. Emergencies can be things such as accidental ingestion of rat poison, hit by car, and chocolate ingestion.
Non-emergent or chronic health issues will be deferred until regular business hours. If you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment, our veterinarians will work to "squeeze" you in between scheduled appointments. When you arrive, our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen. Please call us first and we will do our best to fit you in our busy schedule.
Please understand there may be times when we are unavailable for emergencies due to family obligations, being out of town, etc. and that after-hour emergency fees will apply.
